They took in a kitten who needed help, and he was immediately drawn to the house dogs and followed in their footsteps.

Kelsey, an experienced fosterer, was contacted about an orange and white kitten who needed a foster home.

She was unable to take him in at the time, but she couldn’t stop thinking about him. “I felt guilty not knowing what might happen to him,” Kelsey shared. As soon as she was available, she stepped up to help. “We were able to get him [that day], and he is just too cute.”

Kelsey brought home the sweet bundle of fluff named Pesto, who instantly stole her heart.

Kelsey settled the kitten into a cozy pen with a warm bed, blankets, and toys. At a few weeks old, Pesto was overjoyed to have a roof over his head and a dedicated foster mom to care for his every need.

He was given a large plushie to keep him company, but all he wanted was to be close to his foster family.

As a singleton, Pesto constantly craved attention and refused to be alone. Penny, one of Kelsey’s resident dogs, heard his tiny cries and came to offer some slobbery kisses.

Penny, having helped many feline fosters over the years, seemed to know just what Pesto needed the moment they met. With her comforting presence, Pesto quickly calmed down and leaned into her, soaking up the affection she offered.

With growing curiosity, Pesto decided he was a big boy now, ready to explore the large room.

He began by waddling over to the door and then made his way to the corner of the room, thoroughly inspecting each doorstopper to ensure everything was secure and no screws were loose under his watch.

For the first few days, Pesto gave his foster mom quite a challenge at mealtime. “He doesn’t really want a bottle but also hasn’t figured out how to eat gruel. It’s a bit of battle.”

Meanwhile, Pesto loved crawling around Ethel, the dog. Though he hadn’t mastered his jump or climb yet, he was determined to stay by her side and play. “Everything and everyone is a playground for Pesto.”

Pesto wriggled out of his bed and tried to burrow into Ethel’s fur. Not long after Ethel had settled on her bed, she felt a small nudge from behind. It was Pesto, seeking her attention and inviting her to play.

The kitten might have been small, but he had a mighty spirit. He waddled over to Ethel’s side, attempting to nibble and playfully wrestle with her muzzle.

Ethel, a gentle soul who adores every kitten she meets, patiently let Pesto play and showcase his tiny prowess. He didn’t know how to “cat” yet and was no bigger than Ethel’s paw, but his fierce attitude was undeniable, even convincing Ethel to let him have her bed.

Soon, they figured out what was bothering Pesto and keeping him from eating properly and promptly got him the treatment he needed.

The next morning, he was his usual active and silly self, but this time, he finished his bottle of food like a champ.

Pesto met Fletcher, a sweet senior dog, and greeted him with an unexpected bear hug. The kitten has a special way of winning the hearts of everyone, including all his canine friends.

In just a week, Pesto has regained his appetite and now enjoys his food more than ever. Every night, he watches TV with his foster family, happily drinking his bottle before drifting off to sleep on a warm lap.
