Riley Did Something Good! Firefighters Go Kitten Fishing

Sharing is caring!

When a tiny black kitten was discovered alone in a sewer, three dedicated firefighters come up with an ingenious idea to rescue it. It was in Chandler, Arizona where the kitten had found themselves about 8 feet down in a storm sewer. The team of rescuers came up with a very far fetched idea to reach the small feline. And the one chosen to attempt the rescue was named Riley.

And Riley did something really good.

The short video shared on the @chandlerfiredept doesn’t show any prior attempts to reach the kitten. But by the time we join the rescue, the three fire fighters have decided to attempt to “lasso” the kitten. They had dropped the rope down the hole and somehow the kitten had walked through the loop. What luck!

It was Riley that was in charge of pulling the kitten out. And it was precociously balancing on the rope while all waited with baited breath.

As the kitten rose inch by inch, all stood by ready to catch the kitten if it tried to run. Almost at the top, Riley repositioned himself quickly as the kitten teetered above the dark abyss, meowing loudly. He quickly pulled up the remainder of the rope, with the kitten simply hanging on the loop around his belly. It was amazing the kitten didn’t wiggle out as it was raised!

Safe at last.

Another firefighter quickly grabbed the kitten and tucked it to her chest safely. With the relief washing over them all, they let out excited laughs and overwhelming emotions. Including Riley, who raised his arms in success, proudly exclaiming “I did something good!” Yes, yes you all did.

After taking some photos with everyone there and the newest rescue, the kitten was off to a new life.

The department did provide a happy update for everyone on the kitten. It was quickly adopted out and given a new name; Riley. *heart bursts with sweetness*

You can see the entire video here and be warned…happy tears and smiles WILL occur! Thank you to Riley and the other fire fighters for continuing to help the local animals.
