Over Protective Cat Mom Gets Help for Her Kittens When Doctor Shows Her How To Love

In a quiet neighborhood, a stray cat, brought her four kittens to the safety of a resident’s garage.

Recognizing their need for a more stable environment, these feline guests were taken to a nearby animal shelter.

Yet, while the shelter provided temporary relief, it was evident that they craved the warmth of a foster home.

So the shelter reached out to the community, sending heartfelt pleas for a foster home.

Among the many who heard this call was Larissa Dub, an ER doctor with a heart brimming with compassion.

Besides her medical profession, she was known for her volunteering at the Liberation Cat House.

This caring lady had a knack for understanding the unsaid words of these silent creatures, she had already rescued, fostered and rehomed over 50 kittens and cats.

So without a second thought, she decided to intervene.

The shelter had told Larissa about Sequoia, this protective cat mother was so fiercely guarding her kittens that she wouldn’t even let the shelter staff approach them.

Her defensive nature was proof of a traumatic past and gave her the determination to shield her kittens from potential harm.

“At the shelter, Sequoia would often lay on top of her kittens, forming a protective barrier,” recounted one of the staff members.

Moved by their story and determined to give them the life they deserved, Larissa swung into action.

She dedicated a whole room in her house to these feline guests. Soft blankets, ample food, toys, and a serene ambiance awaited Sequoia and her kittens.

“Every life, however small or big, furry or not, deserves a shot at love and care,” Larissa firmly believed.

On the day Larissa visited the shelter to bring them home, she felt a mix of excitement and trepidation. How would Sequoia react?

To her astonishment and relief, the very moment Sequoia was safely tucked into the carrier and realized they were leaving the shelter confines, she visibly relaxed.

It was as if she instinctively understood that her life was about to change for the better.

Once they reached Larissa’s house, Sequoia’s transformation was heartwarming.

Gone was the wary, frightened cat. In her place was a creature radiating gratitude.

Her initial moments in her new home were spent rubbing affectionately against Larissa, her purrs echoing contentment.

It didn’t take long for Sequoia to completely trust her human savior.

This trust was symbolized in a poignant gesture when she gently placed one of her kittens on Larissa’s lap, a silent nod of approval and gratitude.

Sequoia wasn’t just a wonderful mother; she herself was a young cat, probably under a year old, and still retained her kitten-like charm.

Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and she was a vocal little thing, often ‘talking’ and expressing her happiness with loud purrs, especially when pampered with chin scratches and gentle head kisses.

Each kitten had its own personality. Smokey, for instance, had a congenital abnormality which made him miss a hind foot.

Yet, his spirit was indomitable. He was as lively and playful as Bryce, Rainier, and Zion, his siblings.

The days turned into weeks, and the kittens evolved from being tiny furballs to energetic young cats.

Their favorite pastime? Climbing, of course!

No tree was too tall, no shelf too high.

Smokey, even with his slight disadvantage, was right there alongside his brothers, proving that spirit often triumphs over physical limitations.

Good news wasn’t far behind. Bryce, Smokey, and Rainier soon found families eager to adopt them.

Zion, too, had a potential family lined up.

Larissa says:

“The best part of rescue is seeing these babies find their forever homes. I love getting text updates from my adopters showing me how the kitties are thriving in their new homes!

And I’m lucky to have an amazing partner that supports my passion and helps me with all of these munchkins!”

Yet, Sequoia, the gentle soul who started this journey, was still waiting.

With her loving nature and the story of her resilience, many are hopeful that she’ll soon find a home where she’s cherished and loved.
