A kind person heard a meow coming from the rooftop of a building and found a kitten with his mother, ready for the good life.

Donna, an animal rescuer dedicated to helping community cats, had just finished her morning rounds when she heard the unmistakable sound of a kitten calling from the top of a building.
Following the cries, she spotted a fluffy black-and-white kitten pacing on the rooftop, meowing directly at her. Not far away, another cat perched under some tree branches, peeking through cautiously.
Just then, John, the owner of the property, pulled into the lot. After hearing what was happening, he offered Donna access to the roof.

Donna returned to her car to grab a carrier and some food, then headed straight up the stairs. “Once I got up there, I didn’t see any other kittens, and the mom was nowhere to be found,” Donna shared.
She later learned that the pair had once had a caretaker who could no longer look after them.

Ready to retire from her mom duties, the cat left the building and entrusted her baby to Donna. “She literally brought me her kitten as if to say, ‘I’m done with this kid. Here he is. Take him.'”
Donna placed the carrier down with food inside. Within minutes, the hungry kitten walked right in. “I walked over and closed the door. He ate the entire can of wet food.”

Donna took the kitten, named Johnny, to an animal clinic. At just eleven weeks old, he was underweight, dehydrated, and battling fleas and lice. The staff wasted no time giving him fluids and treatment.
Johnny charmed everyone at the clinic. His purr motor never stopped, whether he was in someone’s arms or simply enjoying a meal.

Not long after, Johnny met Charcoal, the resident “house panther.” He greeted his new friend with nose kisses and a steady rumble of purrs. “Johnny is truly lucky to have Charcoal to show him how to cat,” Donna told Love Meow.
While Johnny was safe with his foster family, Donna was determined to help his mom, too.

Donna returned to the building several times, hoping to find the elusive feral mother so she could be spayed and receive the care she needed. Each time, the cat was nowhere to be found until one morning, when Donna heard that familiar meow.
The cat had reappeared on the rooftop. With the help of a humane trap, Donna finally brought her in.

Meanwhile, Johnny blossomed into a boisterous, joyful young cat, always on the lookout for mischief. “He plays nonstop and will bring you tons of laughs with his silly antics. He loves attention. The moment you touch him, he purrs and makes biscuits.”
His once scruffy coat grew sleek and glossy. “With good food, he has made an amazing recovery.”

When Donna first rescued Johnny from the rooftop, he was just skin and bones. “I could feel every rib and his spine.”
Now, at seventeen weeks old, he has more than doubled his weight. The reddish-brown tinge in his fur has given way to a soft, lustrous coat of darker black. He finally looks the way he should for his age.

Johnny’s mom has since returned to her familiar home, where she is now fed and cared for thanks to Donna. Johnny has embraced the comforts of indoor life and is now ready for his forever home. He’s healthy, affectionate, and so full of life.
“He’ll never spend another night on the streets or a rooftop again.”
