Britannica.com defines Feng Shui as an ancient Chinese practice of orienting significant sites, buildings, and the spaces and objects within them in harmony with the flow of qi (also spelled ch’i). Qi (“breath” or “dragon’s breath”) is the vital life force. Feng shui is rooted in the Daoist (also spelled Taoist) concept of the complementary energies of yinyang and the theory of the five fundamental elements in the universe. The Five Elements are Wood (木 mù), Fire (火 huǒ), Earth (土 tǔ), Metal (金 jīn), and Water (水 shuǐ). They are the very foundation of Feng Shui and each play a very important role in creating the perfect environment.

Cats and Feng Shui
When I came across the social media profile FengShuiCulture, I saw 2 videos that peaked my interest in this subject. A subject I never even thought about existing; Cats and their relation or effects from this ancient practice.
The first video was titled “FengShui Tips For Raising Cats”.
Do you know there are Feng Shui principles for raising cats?
In Feng Shui cats are associated with the wood element. Placing your cats bed or sleeping area in the EAST or SOUTHEAST can boost their vitality and overall health Additionally the NORTH is another favorable location because water supports wood bring even more energy and liveliness to your furry friend. (If you want to fall head first into learning about Feng Shui directions and elements, start here!)
The materials of the cat bed also matter. Since cats align with the wood element, opt for beds made of wood, bamboo or fabric to complement their natural energy and promote better health.
Avoid metal-based beds as metal clashes with wood and may lead to a weaker constitution for your cat. When choosing a sleeping area make sure it is in a quiet and calm space. Avoid placing their bed in cluttered or high traffic areas like doorways or hallways ,as this disrupts their sense of security and peace.
By thoughtfully arranging your cats living environment and following these Feng Shui guidelines, you can not only enhance your cats health but also bring more harmony and good fortune into your home.
So how do you know what to look for?

Doubters of Feng Shui
Feng Shui has had a long and tumultuous history in it’s almost 6000 years. But it isn’t a religion and that is where many people look at it incorrectly. It may have originated in ancient China, but today it has spread to all corners of the globe. You have likely seen the Japanese “Beckoning Cat” which is associated to different things depending on what color it is.
Because feng shui has little to no grounding in empirical science, and because of its complexity and the diverse forms with which it is practiced, many have criticized it as irrational, fraudulent, or both.
Honestly, if someone finds peace by placing plants in a specific corner or facing their bed a certain direction, so be it. As long as it follows the “harm none” mentality, I’m all for it.
Because the wealth of happy heart filled with loving purrs is the ultimate peace for cat lovers.
