As an Oriental shorthair with a stunning white coat, Olive’s eyes are the standout feature that sets her apart from other cats. While it’s not uncommon for white cats to have unusual eye colors, Olive’s eyes are particularly striking. From her delicate face, she stares at you with captivating eyes resembling precious gems made of sapphire and amber. However, her eyes are not just a single color; instead, they are divided into two halves, with blue on the inner half and amber on the outer half.
Olive’s eye color is a result of Sectoral Heterochromia, which is a genetic condition that causes one eye’s iris to have two different colors. In her case, one eye has blue and golden brown hues. However, there’s no need to be concerned about her health as this unique genetic trait doesn’t cause any harm to her medical well-being and instead creates a stunning beauty in her eyes.
Have you ever wondered if all white cats with blue eyes are deaf? Well, it turns out that this is just a myth! According to statistics, less than 5% of the cat population is comprised of pure white cats. And out of that small percentage, only around 2% have blue eyes. While it’s true that some white cats may be deaf, not all of them are. Researchers at Cornell Feline Health Center found that only 17 to 22 percent of white cats with non-blue eyes are born deaf. Meanwhile, the percentage rises to 40 percent if the cat has one blue eye, and upwards of 65 to 85 percent of all-white cats with both eyes blue are deaf. But don’t worry, my cat Olive can hear without any issues!
Olive, the cute little feline with her big ears, is probably capable of hearing everything that’s happening around her home. With three feline siblings, Olive is likely to be privy to some mischief and antics all day long! Interestingly, when Olive’s owner Kim made up her mind to adopt another cat, she had a unique plan in place. Kim was in search of a vibrant kitten that could blend seamlessly with her existing furry family of four.
When Kim laid her eyes on Olive, she knew that the kitten was perfect for her family. However, Olive’s unique eyes were not the reason why Kim chose her. As Kim picked Olive up from the lady, it was quite dark, and only when the lady lifted her into the light did she mention Olive’s possibly unusual eyes. To everyone’s surprise, Olive’s eyes were indeed quite odd-looking!
