A cat showed up at the NYPD Mounted Unit and decided to have her kittens there. Days later, their lives changed for the better.

A gray-and-white pregnant stray wandered into the NYPD Mounted Unit in search of food and shelter. Perhaps the horses in the stable might have drawn her in.
The cat decided to stay after realizing the people were kind, and the food was plentiful. Soon after, she brought her kittens into the world. They set up a cozy nursery for the new mom and her litter of three.
To ensure the mom received the care and support she needed, they contacted Meagan, the president of PuppyKittyNYCity, for assistance.

Meagan immediately offered to take the feline family into her care and headed out to pick them up.
The cat named Neigh Neigh nestled with her precious trio (Trotter, Canter, and Gallop) in their comfy nest at the Mounted Unit. She was very protective of her kittens, but when she was petted, she leaned in for more.

After saying goodbye to the staff and the horses, Meagan saddled up and brought the family of four to their foster home.
She prepared a comfortable space with food, fresh water, toys, and a cubby bed where the mom could feel safe with her kittens. Once Neigh Neigh settled in, she insisted on staying in with her young, barely stepping out to eat.

She was nervous at first when Meagan brought her food. Once she realized her foster mom meant well, she warmed up to her, allowing chin scratches and even letting Meagan weigh her babies.
She closely watched as her foster mom took the kittens for their regular weigh-ins.

The moment a kitten made a peep, she dashed over, making sure they were okay and soothing them with a gentle nudge. “She is so protective of them and a very good mama,” Meagan shared with Love Meow.
At one week old, Trotter, the little gray tabby, was the smallest of the litter.

Trotter continued to make steady gains alongside their siblings, becoming rounder and fluffier each day.
Meagan monitors their growth daily and is ready to provide supplemental feedings and support whenever needed. As soon as she returns the kittens to Neigh Neigh, the sweet mama showers them with affection.

“Tiny babies like this don’t just show up in shelters ready to be adopted. They need round-the-clock care, bottle-feeding, or to be with their mom to survive. Fostering is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s the only way to witness these tiny beans grow from helpless newborns to playful, thriving kittens.”
Feeling relaxed and secure, Neigh Neigh moved from her cubby bed to a larger area filled with soft blankets.

With their eyes open, the kittens are almost ready to waddle and explore. Their mom keeps a watchful eye on them, giving them mandatory baths and purring them to sleep after nursing.
The kittens have grown by leaps and bounds, each with a healthy, round belly.

Recently, the rescue took in two orphaned kittens who desperately needed help. “These guys are just one or two days old. Being with a mom is best. We are trying to see if Mama Neigh Neigh will accept them.”
“I think she will; she’s a very good mom.”
