A cat led a woman to the kittens she had hidden in a large bin, showing her trust in the cutest way.

A few months ago, Vanessa, a volunteer with Chatons Orphelins Montreal, noticed a black-and-white cat wandering around her neighborhood.

The cat often passed through her yard and others nearby, but no one came to claim her. “One evening, she saw the cat meowing in the alley, walking up to people for attention. She looked malnourished, but her round belly suggested she might be pregnant,” the rescue shared with Love Meow.

When Vanessa tried to approach, the cat darted into hiding, but Vanessa wasn’t about to give up.

For several days, the cat disappeared. Vanessa searched the alley but found no sign of her. Then one day, while walking her own cat on a leash near her home, she came face to face with the black-and-white stray once again.

Even though Vanessa’s own cat hissed at her, the stray lingered nearby, as if quietly pleading for help. Vanessa quickly brought her cat home and returned with food and a carrier.

“Fortunately, the cat was waiting for her, like she knew the woman would come back for her.”

Starving, the cat devoured the food and even allowed Vanessa to pet her. That’s when Vanessa realized the cat was a nursing mom, and that there were kittens out there depending on her. “It was absolutely crucial to find the babies before bringing the mother to safety.”

Relieved and grateful, the cat leaned into Vanessa, soaking up every bit of affection. It was clear she had been abandoned and left to survive on the streets.

As the cat padded down the alley, Vanessa followed close behind. The cat led her through a courtyard and toward a small wooden shed, then hopped into a green recycling bin with a blue bucket inside.

Neighbors gathered to help, clearing out the shed and lifting the bin. Inside, they found two tiny kittens curled up at the bottom of the bucket and two more tucked beneath a few items in the bin.

The four kittens, about 10 days old, were alive and well. Their brave mother had led Vanessa straight to them.

That night, the family of five slept on a clean, warm bed in a safe home. The mother cat, named Sayah, had a full belly for the first time in a long while. “This was probably her first litter (and it will be her last) as she was barely a year old.”

Sayah and her kittens settled into a foster home, where she immediately claimed a drawer as her throne.

“At first, the kittens needed supplemental bottle-feeding. But with unlimited access to food, Sayah regained her strength and soon produced enough milk to feed all four of her babies.”

Day by day, the kittens grew bigger and stronger, and their personalities began to shine.

“Astro, the little tabby boy, is the boldest. Billie, the short-haired tabby girl, is the cuddliest. Saturnin, the tuxedo boy, is the baby of the group. And Dahlia, the long-haired tabby girl, is the most curious.”

Together, they filled their foster home with joyful chaos and happy, squeaky meows.

“These kittens are the lucky ones,” the rescue shared. “Their mother showed the rescuer exactly where she had hidden them so the whole family could be saved.”

Now, Sayah and her kittens have a bright future ahead of them and the good life they deserve.
