Delancey had been a street cat for numerous years before a kind-hearted individual discovered her.
Jenna, also known as Mama Delancey, was discovered in an industrial area in Newark, New Jersey after surviving a challenging life on the streets and multiple litters of kittens. A local animal rescuer, Jenna was asked to help with Mama Delancey and another pregnant cat by Karla Agostinello from North Shore Animal League America. Jenna, along with a dedicated team of rescuers including Patti, Linda, and Holly, has been working non-stop to spay and neuter all the cats in the area and find foster homes for the friendly ones.
Jenna Delancey managed to dodge the trap for a couple of weeks before disappearing for a brief period. When she reappeared, she was no longer carrying kittens. The friendly tabby even approached Patti for some food and affection.
Aware that the kittens had been born, they started searching for them. They decided to check the nearby mechanic shop and inquired if anyone had spotted the kittens.
“One of the workers signaled for me to enter the shop. And there in a cozy little office was Mama Delancey with her newborn babies (around three days old).”
Jenna shared the heartwarming story of a mother cat who decided to give birth to her kittens in a box at a local shop. The protective momma cat used her own body as a shield to keep her babies safe and cozy. A kind man at the mechanic shop, who knew the cat well, gently helped her into a trap and carefully gave her each of her precious kittens. Without hesitation, the momma cat quickly picked up her babies, determined to move them to a safe place.
With the assistance of a mechanic, they successfully rescued the entire cat family and brought them to Save the Animals Rescue Team (START), a rescue organization based in Little Falls, NJ, providing them with a new opportunity for a brighter future.
Lauren, a dedicated foster volunteer, welcomed the cat family into her home to ensure that the mother cat had a safe and peaceful environment to care for her kittens.
Jenna observed that the mother cat, who had once been concerned about finding shelter and food, began to thrive once she no longer had to worry about those things. She looked after her kittens with great care during their nursing period, always keeping one or two of them close to her at all times.
Jenna took great care of her kittens, ensuring they were always well-fed, clean, and felt secure and loved. As her little ones grew older and more independent, she guided them in learning how to navigate the world as cats while still showering them with affection and unwavering love.
Jenna Delancey’s test results came back positive for FIV, but luckily, her kittens were not affected by the virus. According to Jenna, FIV is only spread through deep bite wounds, not through everyday activities like grooming or sharing food, water, and litter boxes. She emphasized that FIV+ cats can safely coexist with non-FIV cats as long as they get along peacefully, with no risk of transmission between them.
Jenna, the affectionate tabby, recently stepped back from her duties as a mother once her kittens were old enough to be spayed and neutered. Happily, her kittens quickly found loving homes of their own. However, Mama Delancey is still on the lookout for her forever family to come along. Described as fearless and a bit of a tough nut to crack at first, Mama Delancey is known to soften up and become a cuddly sweetie once she trusts you. Just give her some time, and you won’t regret having her as your loyal companion.
Jenna has finally said goodbye to her life as a street cat. She is thankful for the safe home, abundance of food, and all the comforts she had always dreamt of for her small family. Being a caring and loving cat mom, she is now looking forward to being pampered and cherished in a forever home of her own.
