Acquiring a pet is a big decision that requires careful consideration. Pets become part of the family and need just as much love and attention as anyone else. Unfortunately, not everyone is equipped to handle this responsibility, as seen with a family from North Carolina who gave away their 7-year-old cat, Toby.
Toby initially arrived at their home as a stray cat, but the situation took a turn in February when he started having issues with their other cats. This led the family to search for a new home for Toby, and they found one about 12 miles away. However, Toby was determined to return to the family he loved so much, walking all those miles back home, only to be rejected once again.
The family made a harsh decision the second time around, taking Toby to a shelter and requesting he be put down. Thankfully, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County stepped in and offered to take Toby in and find him a new loving family.
After the SPCA’s post about Toby spread on social media, Michelle Puckett from Raleigh, North Carolina, came across it and immediately went to meet him at the shelter. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Toby’s life.
On April 13th, Toby met his new family, including three siblings (one feline and two human) and a cat-savvy mom who will show him what true love and care mean. The Wake County SPCA shared the news on their Facebook page, expressing their joy that Toby has finally found happiness.
Instagram users can follow Toby’s journey as he adjusts to his new home and family.
After observing that he was not getting along with their other cats, his owners made the decision to rehome him.
That’s when they decided to pass him on to a new family who lived approximately 12 miles from their own home.
Unfortunately, Toby couldn’t understand why his loving owners chose to part ways with him. Despite this confusion, he bravely trekked the long journey of 12 miles back home, only to face rejection once more.
This time around, the choice was far more harsh.
In a recent Facebook post, SPCA of Wake County revealed that the family he believed cared for him actually turned him over to a shelter with the request to put him down.
However, the employees declined and instead reached out to the SPCA, requesting their assistance in finding a new loving home for the animal.
Naturally, they agreed enthusiastically!
As soon as this message was shared on social media, news about Toby began to circulate rapidly.
Michelle Puckett, a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, stumbled upon an irresistible sight that compelled her to drop everything and head straight to the SPCA to meet the charming cat.
It marked the start of a fresh chapter in Toby’s journey.
On April 13th, this feline struck gold when he crossed paths with his new, potentially eternal, family.
“He now has three new brothers and sisters – one furry and two little humans, as well as a mom who knows all about caring for cats, to introduce him to the wonderful experience of being part of a loving family.”
We are absolutely thrilled to hear that Toby has finally found happiness!
